Here at Land of the Living, we use Temperament Testing paired with Biblical Counseling to bring healing and wholeness to your life.
Test results will be provided to the client and explained thoroughly with a Certified Temperament Counselor. However, we recommend that clients not merely review their results one time over with their counselor, but that they would continue to review their test results repeatedly on their own. Continuing to review your results, especially as life situations arise, will allow you to better understand yourself and give you clarity during times of stress, anxiety, depression, inter-personal conflict and relational conflict with others.
What is Temperament?
Temperament is the inborn (non-genetic) part of a person that determines how they react to people, places, and things. In short, it is how people interact with their environment and the world around them.
Temperament pinpoints our perception of ourselves and the people who love us. It is also a determining factor in how well we handle the stresses and pressures of life.
Similarly to how a doctor takes an x-ray to better understand what is going on internally, Temperament Testing helps the counselor see beyond your personality and character and allows them to see your individual core needs.
Temperament focuses on meeting internal needs to reduce stress, brings understanding in times of relational conflict, and provides self-awareness. When we understand ourselves best, then we have an advantage to heal and make decisions that are best for ourselves individually.
What are the benefits of Temperament Testing?
- It reveals the “hidden problems” that normally take the counselor seven or eight sessions to identify.
- It helps in counseling you more individualistically, based on your areas of need, rather than generically.
- Helps the client navigate relationships with family, friends and romantic relationships. A great addition to pre-marital counseling.
- Helps bring self-awareness, allowing you to realize your natural strengths and weaknesses. Note: We do not excuse working on our weaknesses simply because they are more organic to our temperament. Rather, identifying our weaknesses helps us work on them and bring these areas to the Lord for growth.
- The client can better identify when their needs are/are not being met. This helps the client personally navigate through times of stress, anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues or relational conflict effectively.
Is Temperament Testing a Personality Test?
No, the Theory of Temperament is NOT to be compared with other personality tests such as Meyers Briggs, Enneagram, DISC, etc.
In fact, personality testing leaves many individuals disappointed when they find themselves being placed in a single category that does not always seem to describe who they really are. We believe that personality is formed as a result of how we were parented, the environment in which we grew up, and circumstances that may have occurred throughout the years that shape our thoughts of who we are, why we make the choices we make, how we choose friends, spouse, career, and how we parent our children.
A person’s temperament is separate. It is who they really are underneath their personality and even their character or learned behaviors. It reveals the “hidden problems” that normally take the counselor seven or eight sessions to identify. Presently, over 3,000 Christian leaders, ministers and professional Christian counselors and coaches rely on the Arno Profile System to aid them in their client sessions. Christian professionals report an accuracy rate of over ninety-percent (90%) in identifying an individual’s inborn, God-given temperament.
Which Temperament Test do we use?
Land of the Living uses the Arno Profile System, a clinical diagnostic tool, developed by the National Christian Counselors Association.
Temperament Package
We offer a Temperament Package for those who are interested in solely taking a Temperament Test, followed by one session to review results. This can be a beneficial service for those who seek to understand more about themselves and the way they are naturally wired, without the commitment of further counseling. Those who receive this service are more than welcome to continue with counseling services later on.
